Personal Training
I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and have been training since 1997. I have trained the majority of my clients in their homes (or outside if weather permits), but have also worked in several different health clubs.
My philosophy is this: If you are not 100% committed to reaching your physical goals, then you are better off finding a trainer who is fine with that. I truly have no interest in just collecting a paycheck while watching you half-ass it in the gym.
You’re probably thinking that if someone is willing to plunk down a substantial amount of money on training fees, then they must be committed…Not so. There are plenty of folks out there who have significant amounts of discretionary income and are in love with the idea of having a trainer but not in love with all the work it takes to make a change.
Once a client, you can expect me to design a strength and cardiovascular exercise program with your specific goals in mind. The premise is to progressively challenge your fitness level and not exceed your capabilities. Too often I see trainers pushing their clients into doing the ‘exercise of the day’ or into something that is beyond their current ability. This is an injury waiting to happen.
I will monitor and adjust your exercise plan as needed and offer nutritional guidance as well. I am not a registered dietitian but know enough about healthy eating to offer suggestions on how to improve your eating habits. Frequent communication is vital and clients should be prepared for frequent discussions. I have found that this also helps with keeping the client motivated and accountable.
During the last 13 years as a trainer, I’ve worked in several different health clubs and country clubs in Maryland and Colorado. I have trained many different individuals with varying fitness levels, health issues, and fitness goals. Several of the areas in which I have worked are as follows:
- Worked with seniors in an effort to maintain lean muscle mass, battle the effects of aging, and to help increase bone density.
- Developed and ran a youth fitness program in order to educate kids aged 12-16 on the benefits of lifelong exercise. I also trained each youth individually to teach proper exercise technique and form.
- Trained obese individuals who were at serious risk for heart disease in an attempt to improve their overall quality of life and increase longevity.
- Worked in partnerships with physical therapists to rebuild and strengthen injured muscles and speed up the recovery process in clients.
- Trained clients who were looking to make gains in muscle mass and increased strength and power.
- Worked with clients whose goals were solely to improve on athletic endurance and performance.
I am not currently accepting new clients. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in future training.
